Freely sharing the gifts: A devotion for June 11, 2014

"These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ... 'As you go, proclaim this message: "The kingdom of heaven has come near." Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.' " — Matthew 10:5a, 7-8 (NIV)Jesus' twelve disciples were given the same power Jesus had and were able to do miracles among the people to whom Jesus sent them. At the end of his instructions, Jesus reminds them, "Freely you have received; freely give." We may not have the same miraculous powers that Jesus' disciples had, but we have been given similarly powerful gifts by God through Jesus. Those gifts are faith, hope and love. We have received faith to believe the good news. We have been given hope to hold fast to that good news in spite of bad times. And we have been loved deeply and completely. All of these gifts are those we can share with the rest of the world starting with our own little corner of it.Prayer: Almighty God, thank You for giving us the gifts of faith, hope and love. Help us to freely share them with our neighbors. Amen.Readers are encouraged to submit their own testimonials and prayers, and leaders of all faiths are welcome to submit messages or sermons here by clicking on this link
