Looking to our Father: A devotion for June 9, 2014

Becky Whitlock • Jun 10, 2014 at 8:28 AM

"The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." — Romans 8:15 (NIV)On Sunday, many families will gather to celebrate Dad. We will pay tribute to Dad's strength and love, honor him for always going the extra mile and being there when we needed him, and thanking him for taking care of us and protecting us. However, we have to acknowledge that not everyone has a father who is a good, trustworthy dad. And there are others who will this Sunday be grieving the loss of their Dads. But we can be grateful, whether our dads are good or not, whether they are still living or have passed away, that our Eternal Father remains present in our lives through the Spirit. No matter our age or station in life, when we are troubled, fearful or hurting, we can cry to God, "Abba, Father" and know we are heard.Prayer: Our Father, thank You for adopting us as Your children. May we always feel able to turn to You as children turn to their loving Dads. Amen.Readers are encouraged to submit their own testimonials and prayers, and leaders of all faiths are welcome to submit messages or sermons here by clicking on this link
