In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells his followers and us that we are like lights that illumine all those in our “house.” But even though this light shines from us, we often find all kinds of “bowls” to cover it. Maybe we’re too shy to make friends with a neighbor. Maybe we’re too busy to help out someone in need. Maybe we’re too focused on ourselves to reach out and seek healing for the hurt and brokenness in those around us. We ought to try to find those “bowls” — shyness, busy-ness, egocentrism or whatever darkens our lives — and lift them off the lights God has given us to illumine His love and mercy in the world.
Prayer: Gracious God, help us see Your light within us and in others. Give us strength to let it illumine and warm all those who seek Your grace, mercy and love. Amen.Readers are encouraged to submit their own testimonials and prayers, and leaders of all faiths are welcome to submit messages or sermons here
