It is time once again to start enjoying some fresh

and local food! Throughout northeast

Tennessee and southwest Virginia, farmers markets are opening up to bring you

the best food products from the local community. Enjoy this time of the year by filling up a

basket full of seasonal produce, baked goods, canned foods, dairy items and

fresh cut flowers. Regardless of where

you live in the area, there is a good chance a farmers market is close

by.

Abingdon

of providing local farmers with a location from which they could sell their

goods to the public. Today, State Street Farmer’s Market is a highly

anticipated fixture in the Bristol community. Local residents look forward to

County Farmers Market

The

mission of the Johnson County Farmers Market is to help strengthen a

sustainable local agricultural and food economy by providing education,

promoting market outlets, and engaging in community enhancement. In the 2012

season, we are a multiple vendor farmers market in the State of TN accepting

SNAP food stamps. Plants, fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, jams and

jellies and handmade crafts are offered at our market. Vendors producing at

least 50% of what they sell and from within a 150-mile radius are allowed.

The Town

of Unicoi is pleased to announce the opening of a Farmers Market just off exit

32 of I-26 in Unicoi, TN. Unicoi County is well known for agriculture – from

Scott’s strawberries to Church’s tomatoes to small independent farmers growing

everything from sweet corn to beans. The Unicoi Farmers Market will focus on

locally grown fruit, vegetables, meats, eggs and honey as well as baked goods

and cheese. Many vendors have greenhouses to extend the harvest. The location

has a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and is near hiking trails

and restaurants yet convenient to I-26 for those who want to dash in and dash

out with their purchases. Nontraditional afternoon hours make our market unique

in the area and are a perfect Sunday afternoon outing for the family to enjoy.
