'Top Brass' recital features region's best brass musicians

JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State University’s Faculty Brass will present “Top Brass,” a free public recital at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, at First Presbyterian Church, 105 S. Boone St.

The Faculty Brass, which will perform works by composers Ducommun, Barat, Serocki and Sparke, is comprised of some of the “top brass” performers in the area. Its members are veterans of United States military bands, current ETSU brass faculty, and principal players of the Johnson City Symphony and Kingsport’s Symphony of the Mountains.

The ensemble performs many different styles of music and can adapt selections to fit multiple genres, including church music, ceremony music, classical, pop, Dixieland and jazz. Its recent appearances include regional college graduations, gubernatorial election events, weddings, veterans’ functions, church services and the Barter Theater Performing Arts Series in Abingdon, Va.

Members include Jimmie Self on euphonium, David Bubsey on trombone and Dr. David Champouillon on trumpet. They will be accompanied by pianists Ann Jones and Jeri Paolini.
