BIG STONE GAP — The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park in Big Stone Gap is now accepting entries for its annual “Stitch in Time” Quilt Show.

In its 16th season, the annual exhibit honors both past and present and features quilts not only from the museum’s own collection, but also from members of the community who display quilts from their own collections.

Those interested in participating in this year’s Quilt Show may stop by the park during normal operating hours or call (276) 523-1322 to request an entry form. All entries must be received by the museum by 4 p.m. on March 27.

The 16th annual “Stitch in Time” Quilt Show will be open to the public from April 2 through May 31, and regular admission rates apply.

The museum has also announced the launch of a new artisan series of programs to provide visitors with opportunities to create handmade crafts with regional artisans.

The first workshop in the monthly series, Birdhouse Building & Painting, is a craft project to take advantage of the coming spring season while offering participants an opportunity to explore their creativity.

The workshop is designed for an adult/child team or small group, and each team will build and paint its own birdhouse that can be used outdoors or as an indoor display piece. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The cost of the workshop is $10 per adult/child pair and $5 for each additional child up to a maximum of three children. All supplies and materials are included. Each pair or group will create one birdhouse to take home.

The registration and payment deadline for the birdhouse workshop is 4 p.m. on March 15. The workshop can accommodate up to 10 adult/child pairs, so register early by calling (276) 523-1322.

The museum’s artisan series will offer a craft project on the third Monday of every month through December. For more information about upcoming workshops, call park staff.
