staff report • Mar 1, 2013 at 9:41 AM

BIG STONE GAP — Strawberry Jam will serve as the featured hosts for the First Saturday Community Coffee House from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park.

Buddy Delp and Jane Branham formed the Strawberry Jam musical duo in 2010. The Southwest Virginia natives have been influenced by the rich and diverse musical culture of the mountains and enjoy sharing their songs of good times and the good old days with their audiences.

The duo blends basic acoustic music to express themselves through a combination of instruments and vocals. Guitar, mandolin and Native American flute are their instruments of choice.

The first Strawberry Jam CD entitled “Mountain Fall,” recorded at Maggard Studio in Big Stone Gap, was released in 2011. The work consists of a dozen original songs written and arranged by Delp and Branham over the years. Area audiences have enjoyed the combination of delicious vocals and musical riffs of the duo.

The museum’s First Saturday Community Coffee House is an open mic event open to all family-friendly performers. All interested musicians, storytellers and poets should arrive by 6:30 p.m. for signup and scheduling.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available for purchase.
