Kingsport cheerleaders to perform in London's New Year's Day Parade

Rae Nelson and Tosha Nicole Banks from Dobyns-Bennett High School are two of more than 500 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. who will be performing in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1st.

The individuals who are invited to perform in the parade, qualified for the trip after being selected as an All American Cheerleader at one of the 2012 UCA Summer Cheer Camps hosted by Universal Cheerleaders Association held at the University of Tennessee during their summer camp with their Dobyns-Bennett Cheerleading Squads. All Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading skills at camps across the country.

Both girls have competed with the Dobyns-Bennett High School varsity cheerleading squad, who has taken 1st place twice at UCA Regionals Competitions in Tennessee and once at UCA North Alabama Regionals. The squad has also taken 1st place at TSSAA State Competitions for the past two years and 2nd place this year at state, under Head Coach Jessica Steadman Ross. Both girls will traveling in February 2013 with the Dobyns-Bennett Varsity Cheerleaders to 2013 National High School Competition at Disney in Orlando, Florida.
