Lux Nail Spa & Salon strives to offer 'sophisticated' experience

Meghan Briscoe likes making women feel good about themselves.

"It’s so gratifying to be a part of a business that offers quality beauty products, a relaxing atmosphere and an expertly-trained staff of Asian nail technicians - especially when that woman leaves with a smile on her face and a little more energy in her step."

Meghan has spent most of her life learning how to create those experiences, and whether it is her warm smile, welcoming manner, attention to detail or professional experience, she has honed those skills to benefit customers at the new Lux Nail Spa & Salon.

Meghan, a Kingsport native, learned about hair care at a young age: her grandfather was a barber and her mother, a hairdresser. She and her mother have owned Blush, a hair and nail salon in Colonial Heights, for three years. While she attended school at East Tennessee State University, Meghan worked for a local entrepreneur and business owner in the Tri Cities named KV. They "clicked" and became good friends.

When the opportunity arose to start another business, KV asked Meghan to manage it and Lux Nail Spa & Salon was born. Meghan rose through the ranks to manager of Lux, which meant learning many different skills: marketing and promotion, customer service, bookkeeping and human resources. That "cross-training" has come in handy, though, because she is often called on to do two or more of these functions each day!

"One of our main objectives with Lux Nail Spa & Salon is to offer a high-end and sophisticated experience to our customers," Meghan explains. That experience begins at the large glass doors and continues through the open, airy studio with its stained cement floors, black granite counters and opaque vessel sinks.

Lux’s attention to detail extends to the youngest customers as well. Little girls are treated to their own manicures and pedicures in child-sized pink butterfly chairs. Do mothers really bring their daughters in for manicures? Yes, answers Meghan, and grandmothers bring their granddaughters in, too.

"We do have several mothers who bring their daughters in to have a manicure or pedicure, then later in the week (usually in the evening), those same mothers come back with their friends and have their own party."

Even though Lux has only been open since Nov. 2, it has already built a loyal following.

Lux also hosts birthday parties for little girls who may need special pampering for an event, prom packages, or more sophisticated gatherings for "older girls" who need a little "me time."

There are luxurious private rooms where one can kick back and relax with a glass of wine, enjoy an Ultimate Deluxe Pedicure (sugar scrub, cooling mask, hot towel wrap, hot stone massage and polish) and get caught up with friends. Lux also offers facial waxing, haircuts and styles, color, and an extensive menu of nail services.

Lux Nail Spa & Salon is located at 1880 North Eastman Road, Suite 270, in Reedy Creek Terrace (behind Starbucks) and is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, contact 423-765-2223.
