Egan Construction: Building with Integrity

Debra McCown • Dec 3, 2012 at 11:38 AM

When Marvin Egan started in the construction business 14 years ago, it was just him and a helper, installing kitchen cabinets in new homes. After taking on every odd job from landscaping to fixing kitchen sinks, the phone just kept ringing and he kept saying "yes."

"I went into remodeling and additions, whatever it took to pay the bills. Any job we had available or came to us resulted in hiring additional employees allowing my business to gradually expand," he said. "We landed a very large addition on a home where the clients heard about our commitment to excellence and focus on quality... it just grew from there."

Now, Egan said, the company is a "one-stop shop," a licensed general contractor in Tennessee and Virginia doing both large and small projects.

One division of the company designs and builds custom homes, while another handles any home improvement project such as installation of new windows and flooring. There is also a home and commercial maintenance division, roofing division, remodeling division, electrical division, and a 24-hour emergency response team that handles restoration following damage from fire, wind, water or mold.

"We at Egan Construction want people to know and to feel that they can call us for any of their needs," Egan said, "from replacing a front door all the way to building the home of their dreams."

A Southwest Virginia native who attended Gate City High School, Egan said he prides himself on hiring people who have integrity and treating them right. He has 24 employees and works with about 30 subcontractors.

"I guess the thing that we’re most proud of is we take the client’s dream and turn it into a reality with the utmost quality, while maintaining a constant focus on budget and project management."

Egan credits much of his company’s success to his faith in God.

"We are a Christian company that believes in integrity, honesty and quality. We always believe in doing what we say we’re going to do and trying to provide our services in a timely manner, and to take care of all of our clients in order to maximize their expectations," he said.

"One thing I’ve always told my men is if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right, and to do it right the first time... We believe in taking care of our clients, and... by taking care of our clients and honoring God with what we do, we’ve been blessed to where this company has grown to what it is today."

Egan Construction is located at 345 Water Street in Gate City, Va. For more information, visit the website at www.eganconstruction.com or call 276-386-2300.
