Peters Custom Built Garages works to help clients find needed space

Americans love their cars. In fact, Franklin Roosevelt coined the American dream as "having a chicken in every pot and two cars in every garage." But when families and their belongings grow, that garage gets pretty tight.

That's where Darrell and Debbie Peters come in.

As the owners of Peters Custom Built Garages, they say "No need to move!" They have solved every kind of "additional space" problem imaginable.

"Garages are our specialty. However, we also build room additions and decks. We do roofing, siding and vinyl replacement windows," Darrell says.

He has had a long career that began when he was 16, helping his father in the roofing business. From there, he moved on to work for major construction companies and then to his own business building "yard barns."

"People started wanting yard barns big enough to hold a car so 'Peters Yard Barns' eventually became 'Peters Custom Built Garages,'" Peters said.

A garage is, of course, intended to house one or more cars but, strictly speaking, that is not every customer's purpose in having a garage built.

"Some people build a garage for the traditional reasons for their cars. Many of the people we have built for have made their garage into small businesses, a meeting place for their band or their hobbies and woodworking projects," Darrell explains.

"Sometimes a traditional garage will be converted into another bedroom or an office and then people need another garage for their car. We have built sheds and garages to house motor homes, campers, boats and even the sheds for picnic areas. We've seen them used as apartments... one man liked his garage better than his mobile home so he converted his garage into a house," he continued. "The beauty of a garage is not only that you will use it daily, but it will also increase the value of your home."

To help their customers get a better idea of the quality of their work, the Peters have built a model garage, deck and room addition at 3778 Fort Henry Drive. The garage door is always open and they want people to feel welcome to come inside. Or, as Darrell says, many like to pull their vehicle right into it to see how much room they need. The Peters also have roofing and siding samples at the site and brochures customers can take home to read over and think about.

"There are no high pressure sales. Customers can look around the model and, when they're ready, I will come by their home and give them a free estimate. We simply offer quality construction at a reasonable price," Darrell stressed.

The Peters add that their vast experience allows them to offer a "turn-key" job.

"You won't have to have several contractors to come out. We do the job from start to finish." And it allows for finishing the job in a reasonable time frame.

"So many of our references come from word of mouth. People can't believe how quickly we can complete a job," Darrell says. He has built garages from Dandridge, Tenn., to the Pocono Mountains - with over 1,000 garages completed to date.

"Some people think that we only build in the spring and summer, but Peters Custom Built Garages builds year-round," Darrell said.

Customers can stop by the model at their convenience or call 423-239-6650. They're also on Facebook.
