I Love Books offers wide range of gifts for Valentine's Day

By T. Glen Moody, Ph.D., Curator • Feb 5, 2018 at 4:30 PM

Hull Properties, the new owner of Fort Henry Mall, is “making Fort Henry Mall beautiful again.” Things are really looking up; this was the busiest January I remember in several decades. We had a couple of slower days when the snow/freeze came, but business and traffic in the mall has been really good. The main difference I've noticed in the eight years we've been located inside the mall is that weekdays are just as busy as weekends now.

Since my last article, the entire second level of the mall has new neutral toned carpet to match the new walls, ceilings and hanging light fixtures. The new elevator being installed near the theaters should be finished very soon.

The main event in retail for February is Valentine's Day. We have a great selection of Valentine's Day cards and gifts. Books make the perfect gift for most people any time of year, but we also have a wonderful selection of loose-leaf and bag teas that make a great gift for special days. And remember, we have gift cards as well as honey, organic herbs and spices, over 200 essential oil products, and 358 categories of new and used books.

Our “51 Years” promotion celebrating our 51 years in the book business has been going very well. It includes different books added to a special 51 percent off table every day - and a list of six categories at 51 percent off featured with a weekly coupon in the “Sunday Stories” insert. We run three ads every week in Sunday Stories and feature our most popular, recent and specially-priced items.

Earl Carter's book, “Appalachian Album,” has been out almost a year now and has been our No. 1 seller since it was released. Over 1,200 signed copies have been sold to date. The book probably won't be reprinted, so stop by and get your autographed copy (no extra charge for signed copies) while they last.

Vince Staten's “An UnCONVENTIONAL History of Kingsport” has also been out a little over a year and is still selling very well. However, the supply is limited so if you want a copy of this collectible 100-year history of Kingsport, be sure to get it soon.

Keith Donnelly, now a Kingsport resident, has been a popular regional writer for many years. I Love Books Bookstore is now the exclusive outlet for his Donald Youngblood Mystery Series. And, speaking of exclusives, we are also the exclusive retailer for Vince's “UnCONVENTIONAL History,” Earl Carter's “Appalachian Album,” and Matina Ford-Farmer's “Her Shallow Grave.”

Looking for the perfect Valentine's Day gift for the reader in your life? We still have several copies of books autographed by Adriana Trigiani and Sharyn McCrumb, the two most popular writers of Southern Appalachian fiction.

And, one more tidbit of good news on the local author front: Rye Cove native and regional resident Jack Stallard has just written a collection of stories titled “Don't Call Me Doctor.” The book is described as a collection of humorous stories that illustrate different facets of his life.

In addition to its extensive inventory of works by local and regional authors, I Love Books will also have lots of new titles for the spring from your favorite widely-known authors, including New York Times bestselling author Francine Rivers' “The Masterpiece” due out Feb. 6.

Come see us soon. I Love Books Bookstore is located on the upper level of the Fort Henry Mall near Italian Village and JCPenney.
