BLOUNTVILLE — Industrial parks in Sullivan County have been or are being recertified by the Select Tennessee program, economic development officials said, while HSN, an existing industry in a Piney Flats industrial park, is planning a second expansion following one announced in 2014.
During Wednesday’s NETWORKS — Sullivan Partnership full board meeting at Northeast State Community College, NETWORKS CEO Clay Walker and other NETWORKS officials announced that the Bristol Business Park and Aerospace Park at Tri-Cities Airport have been recertified as Select Tennessee sites, a designation indicating “shovel ready” property with utilities and road access already in place.
The Bristol park also received a $500,000 Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development grant for a building pad on site, through the efforts of Bristol Tennessee Essential Services.
In addition, Walker said Partnership Park II in Bristol should be recertified within 45 days. Sullivan is the first county in Tennessee to have more than one park certified by Select Tennessee.
The CEO also said that HSN — formerly known as the Home Shopping Network — in the Tri-County Industrial Park in Piney Flats is proceeding with a second expansion. He said HSN chose not to make a formal announcement about the decision.
Now, another $9.8 million investment by HSN is moving forward, Walker said, with plans to hire 165 more workers.
The board also viewed a recently updated branding and marketing video for NETWORKS and a video invitation that is going to site selectors and others invited to the Northeast Tennessee Red Carpet tour at the Bristol Motor Speedway fall races. It also highlights the area’s industries, businesses and educational institutions.
