HERMITAGE — The finalists for the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards presented annually to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association are in.

South Greene’s Taylor Lamb is a finalist for the third straight year. This year, however, the Lady Rebels have moved to Class AA. Lamb was a Class A Miss Basketball finalist in both 2016 and 2017.

This is the 34th year that the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards have been presented to Tennessee’s best high school basketball players. Athletes from Northeast Tennessee have claimed the Miss Basketball title three times: Elizabethton’s Kayla Marosites was the Class AA Miss Basketball in 2015 and 2016, and South Greene’s Debbie Hawhee won it in 1988. The region has never produced a Mr. Basketball.

The awards will be presented on the floor of the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 7. The draw for the Division I boys’ state basketball tournament will be held prior to the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards presentation at 5 p.m.

A statewide committee of sportswriters selects winners based on performance during the 2017-2018 regular season. Academics and character are also taken into consideration. High school head basketball coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.
