The Bears’ victory forced a three-way tie for third with Central and Gate City. Seeding for third through fifth for the district tournament will be decided by a series of coin flips on Tuesday.
After falling behind 4-1 after the first inning Monday, Union scored six runs over the third and fourth frames to take an 8-6 edge into the fifth. The Bears scored three runs over the final three innings to set the final tally.
Austin Gibson, Hunter Anderson and Cam Bartee had two hits apiece in the win over the Generals.
Jonah Hilton went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Lee High.
After the first two Union pitchers struggled and didn’t record an out, Mason Caldwell came on in the first inning and earned the win after throwing five innings.
Nate Bailey closed out the final two innings, striking out five.
Jacob Stewart took the loss
The Mountain 7 tournament is scheduled to begin Thursday.
REGION 1-AA BASEBALL
Elizabethton 5, Claiborne 4
ELIZABETHTON — Jacob Mullins scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending the Cyclones (25-7) into Wednesday’s Region 1-AA championship game against the winner of Tuesday’s Sullivan South-Greeneville matchup.
Elizabethton also locked up a sectional berth.
Mullins walked to lead off the sixth and went to second on a steal. After the Bulldogs (16-17) intentionally walked Karson Dillard, Mullins stole third and Dillard tried a delayed steal. The catcher threw the ball toward second base trying to get Dillard, but it sailed into center field and Mullins scored easily.
Elizabethton also locked up a spot in Friday’s sectional round, where a berth in the state tournament will be at stake.

Shoun drove in the first two runs and went on to score twice herself. Lillie Kiser added two hits and an RBI for Unaka (22-21).
