Castillo, Cardinals knock off K-Mets

JOHNSON CITY — Moises Castillo had three hits, three runs and a pair of RBIs Tuesday night at TVA Credit Union Ballpark, where Johnson City pinned a 10-3 Appalachian League loss on Kingsport.

The Cardinals (30-37) were down 2-1 before pushing across five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Zach Jackson broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double, then Castillo launched a two-run homer.

Castillo finished 3 for 4. Jackson, who scored twice, and Brian Sanchez added 2-for-4 efforts to the Redbirds’ victory.

Johnson City starter Kyle Leahy (4-3) pitched six innings of four-hit ball, yielding two runs, one earned. He totaled eight strikeouts against no walks.

Yoel Romero went 3 for 5 to lead the playoff-bound K-Mets (33-34). Robby Kidwell and Ranfy Adon each went 2 for 4.

The teams close out the regular season Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Johnson City.
