Launching two home runs in a 3-for-5 performance, Vientos finished with seven RBIs as the Mets walloped Burlington 8-0 in Appalachian League action.
It was a scoreless and mostly ho-hum type of game until the top of the fourth inning, when Vientos connected for a two-run homer.
One inning later, Kenny Hernandez cracked a leadoff double and advanced to third on a balk before Robby Kidwell lofted a sacrifice fly to center field.
Those runs were more than enough for the Mets, who led 5-0 after three walks and a two-run single from Vientos in the seventh. Kingsport’s third baseman supplied an exclamation point during the ninth, going deep with two men aboard.
The Mets totaled more walks (8) than hits (7) on the night, with Shervyen Newton drawing three bases on balls.
Behind six strong innings from starter Willy Taveras (2-0), Kingsport limited Burlington to a half-dozen hits. Nelson Leon worked a pair of innings before Christian Tripp pitched the ninth.
Eric Cole (2-for-3, double) and Colby Schultz (2-for-4) turned in multi-hit games for the Royals.
Burlington starter Malcolm Van Buren (0-3) tallied seven strikeouts over five innings but was tagged with the loss after yielding three runs on three hits and a trio of walks.
