Greeneville wins state baseball, soccer titles

MURFREESBORO — Braden Spano rapped out a three-run double in the first inning Friday and Jordan Idell launched a three-run homer in the second to send the Greeneville baseball team on its way to the TSSAA Class AA championship, 11-0 over Riverside.

Dalton McLain went 3-for-3 with an RBI single, Spano finished 2-for-3 and Idell added a two-run single for the Greene Devils (28-11-1).

Greeneville sophomore Keylan Newton tossed a two-hitter in the five-inning game.

Later Friday evening, the Greeneville boys soccer team successfully defended its Class AA title with a 3-0 victory over Loudon.

J. Elyze-Vital had a goal and an assist, and Devin Elyze-Vital and Ryan Thompson accounted for the other two goals.

The Greene Devils added their first state baseball title and second consecutive soccer crown to the school’s trophy case mere months after winning the Class 4A football championship.
