“We’re excited. This is what we’ve talked about all year and take care of business,” University High coach Josh Petty said. “We’ve got that (Region 1-A) berth and now the next step is trying to get that No. 1 seed and a host a game next Monday.”
Unaka followed with a 3-0 victory over Sullivan North that eliminated the Golden Raiders.
North Greene plays Unaka in the losers’ bracket final today at 5 p.m., and the survivor takes on University High at 7 p.m. for the title. An if-necessary contest is slated for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
A five-run second inning proved to be enough offense for the Junior Bucs (20-9), and eight of the nine UH batters reached base in the game.
The only baserunner for North Greene (14-9) came in the third when Jack Bembry allowed a single to Denver Weems. Bembry struck out seven, including the side in the fifth inning.
“Jack Bembry threw a great game,” Petty said.

After John Ramsey singled to load the bases, Dakota Gallimore delivered a two-out single that scored John-Wesley Hardin and Blake King in the first inning for all the runs the Rangers (21-11) needed.
Hardin finished 3-for-3. Gallimore and Bryson Street had two hits apiece.
King struck out 10 and gave up three hits with three walks in the complete-game shutout.
Sullivan North’s Hunter Dingus tossed the first 4 1/3 innings, giving up the two runs and scattering seven hits.
The Golden Raiders (7-16) got hits from Peyton Robinson, Josh Oaks and Bryson Blevins.
