“We’ve got to win one more before we can lose two,” Buccaneers coach Josh Petty said after Saturday’s game at David Crockett. “We’re going to put Jack Bembry on the mound on Monday and see if he can command the strike zone.”
University High opened with a flurry, producing a four-run first inning. The Bucs added a run in the second and two more in the third before closing out the victory with a five-run fifth.
Jakob Hare went 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in five runs, A.J. Simerly scored three times and drove in a run in a 2-for-4 performance, and Bembry had three hits and scored twice.
Cas Blevins tossed a complete game, giving up one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and a run allowed on two hits.
“Jakob Hare did a great job at the plate today,” Petty said, “and (we were) able to keep Cas under 55 pitches, so he’s ready for relief Monday.”
The Bucs await the winner of Saturday’s rain-delayed Unaka-North Greene game on Monday at 5 p.m.
The Golden Raiders’ Tyler DePriest scored late to break up the shutout. Braydon Wilhoit and Casey Hartsell had the hits for North, which plays Monday at 7 p.m. against the Unaka-North Greene loser.
