JONESBOROUGH — Hampton let a late lead slip from its grasp and Sullivan North eliminated the Bulldogs with a 6-3 victory in the first round of the District 1-A baseball tournament on Friday night.

After throwing 74 pitches, Hampton’s Dalton Rouse was pulled from a 1-1 tie with two outs and one strike in the top of the fifth inning. The Bulldogs got the final out before scoring twice to take a 3-1 edge into the sixth.

From there, however, North turned the tables by victimizing a pair of Hampton relievers.

Braydon Wilhoit hurled a complete game for the Golden Raiders, yielding five hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight and walked one.

Peyton Robinson had two hits, including a double, and a pair of RBIs for North. The Bulldogs’ Dru Owens and Hunter Davenport each finished 2-for-4.

In other 1-A action, North Greene eliminated Cloudland with a 10-0 victory.
