KINGSPORT — A four-run fifth inning powered the Kingsport Mets past the Pulaski Yankees 7-2 in Appalachian League action Sunday afternoon at Hunter Wright Stadium.

The victory was the eighth in 10 games for the K-Mets (26-29) and moved them to within three games of .500 for the first time since July 1.

The loss dropped the Yankees (37-19) out of first place in the East Division, a half-game behind Bluefield.

Anthony Dirocie got the Kingsport fifth started with a double to left off Deivi Garcia (1-2). Oliver Pascual followed with a line single to center that scored Dirocie and tied the game at 1.

Two outs later, Pascual moved to second on a wild pitch. After Rigoberto Terrazas drew an intentional walk, Juan Uriarte also walked to load the passes.

Wagner Lagrange promptly greeted Yankees reliever Wellington Caceres with a three-run double that gave the K-Mets a 4-1 advantage.

Pulaski’s Yeison Corredera launched a solo homer in the sixth, but the K-Mets answered by adding a single run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

A two-out double by Uriarte in the seventh brought home Terrazas to make it 6-2 and a two-run single from Angel Manzanarez scored Gavin Garay and Dirocie in the eighth for the final tally.

Diro Unda and Evan Alexander combined for four of Princeton’s seven hits off four K-Mets pitchers.

Dirocie, Uriarte and Lagrange each finished with two hits, and Dirocie and Terrazas both scored twice.

Starter Anueary Olivo pitched 4 2-3 innings, allowed four hits and walked four and left down 1-0. Marbin Montijo (3-1) relieved and tossed 1 1-3 innings, giving up one run and striking out two to earn the victory. Edwin German tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth, striking out three, and Ryan Selmer closed it out with a scoreless ninth.

Game 2 of the series is tonight, starting at 6:30.
