Kingsport officials say infrastructure held up to flooding

Downtown Kingsport experienced some of the worst flooding ever, with dozens of houses, businesses and government buildings impacted by Wednesday evening’s sudden storm that dropped nearly four inches of water on the Model City in less than two hours.

Approximately 12 hours after heavy rains flooded sections of downtown Kingsport — rushing an estimated three and half feet of water down some streets — brooms were swishing over debris-strewn sidewalks and shop vacs were humming inside many stores.
