Protesters advanced on police lines in the heart of the Ukrainian capital on Thursday, prompting government snipers to shoot back and kill scores of people in the country's deadliest day since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Hawkins County voters will have plenty of choices in the May 6 primary, with nearly every elected office being contested. The deadline to qualify for candidacy in the primary election passed Thursday at noon with 80 candidates seeking 30 elected seats.

Updated: Student triggers two-bus collision after activating alarm

A Ketron Elementary student is alleged to have inadvertently sent 21 schoolmates to the hospital on Thursday by pulling an emergency window latch and activating an alarm that distracted a bus driver, triggering a two-bus collision.
