A 75-year-old Hawkins County man who thought he was helping his online girlfriend pay to come visit him in Hawkins County from New Hampshire was actually the victim of an $1,800 phony check scam.

Police say a Kingsport man who hopped in a car as repo employees attempted to take repossession — "throwing his elbows" and driving through a yard to flee the scene — faces multiple charges after returning and admitting to the crime.

A video camera within the victim's home allegedly recorded the abuse, with the suspect letting her grandmother fall from bed and lie in the floor nearly seven hours, then neglecting to provide her any food over a 22-hour period.
