Johnson City Power Board officials say commercial customers received phone calls from an unknown party demanding money to prevent disconnection of electrical services. The JCPB serves customers in Sullivan, Washington, Carter, and Greene counties.

A Tuesday afternoon manhunt was underway following a kidnapping from a Kingsport parking lot, where a man allegedly dragged his ex-girlfriend into a car and assaulted individuals who attempted to intervene.

About 100 Sullivan County school system stakeholders Monday night reached a consensus they are willing to pay higher taxes for new school buildings. But they are not so much willing to pay more for renovating or repairing existing buildings.

In July, code enforcement had 242 open cases; today the number is 198. And the number of closed cases per month is greater than the number of open ones, meaning the backlog is being reduced.
