Rash of battery thefts reported in Blountville

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says nine cases have been reported over the last month, with automotive businesses typically the target. At one location, batteries were swiped from 21 separate vehicles.

A Kingsport man has been arrested after allegedly crashing into trees while intoxicated, accosting motorists who stopped to offer aid, then issuing "several detailed threats" to kill arresting officers.

The BOE voted unanimously to decline an offer by Dr. Dixie Bowen for an overall salary of $118,000. The BOE was only willing to offer an overall salary of $103,700, which is $4,000 more than retiring director Charlotte Britton's overall salary.
