Kitchen of Hope to mark 15 years with open house

For 15 years, the Kitchen of Hope has provided free hot meals to folks in need in the Kingsport area. Daily attendance at the kitchen was around 50 to 75 in 2005, compared to the current levels of 150 to 175 and sometimes greater.

Update: Piney Flats chain-reaction crash downs seven power poles, closes part of 11-E

An early Wednesday morning chain reaction caused by a single vehicle wreck in Piney Flats took out seven metal power poles, caused 600 to 700 people to lose power and shut down all lanes of traffic on a section of Highway 11-E.

A Virginia State Police spokeswoman said the shooting occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. at a residence located in the 1500 block of Rocky Hill Road. Police identified the man who was shot as Dennis D. Morrell, 55.

Frank Theaters has not responded to a request for new information about the project, although the company continues to say on its Web site (www.franktheatres.com) that an IMAX is coming to Kingsport.
