UPDATE: National Weather Service: Kingsport tornado packed winds of 110 mph

The National Weather Service has confirmed that tornadoes hit Sullivan and Washington counties Sunday evening, while storm damage in Hawkins County is believed to have been caused by straight-line winds.

A wanted man who reportedly visited the Sullivan County jail to pick up a released inmate is now behind bars himself, as police say he attempted to drive from the parking lot when approached by police, but crashed into a ditch just outside the entrance.

NWS to survey damage, assess reports of 3 tornadoes touching down

According to a preliminary storm report issued by the NWS, there is "possible tornado damage" from roughly Exit 56 of Interstate 81 to Exit 10 of I-26. There were also reports of a possible touchdown in the area of Church Hill and Carters Valley.
